SEMESTER 1
DREAMS
To kick-start our orientation module, our professors asked us to sketch out our dreams and convey what they made us feel on newsprint paper using compressed charcoal sticks. The versatility of compressed charcoal allowed us to explore a dreamy like space in our sketches.
The dream I based my sketch on was that of a dark shadowy figure who was stalking me in different areas of a wooden cabin. There was an impending sense of an invasion of privacy and space.
After that, groups were formed and we were given an objective to amalgamate all the emotions and thoughts conveyed via our sketches and try to create a sketch which embodied all our ideas and emotions.
Eventually after discussing our individual themes of fear, claustrophobia, absurdity and a sense of being trapped, we came up with a collective sketch which conveyed what the group as a whole was feeling.
Our final task of our module was to build a installation model inspired by our sketch. We used file card as our primary material and created our cityscape world of stairs of different scales and shapes.
